It's All About Me

A photographer currently based in Liverpool. Portraiture is my passion with candid and music photography following closely behind. I was originally inspired by classic images from the likes of William Claxton, David Bailey and Terry O'Neill, these days it's more likely to be Steve Shaw, Ellen Von Unwerth, Will Sterns plus a veritable host of others.

Where I'm At

With varied experience in the fields of arts and music. I've worked closely with clients to create specific images they want to convey. Because my work background is not corporate I am used to working with clients on a very relaxed level, I feel this helps to develop a good working relationship with the individuals needs tailored for. Obviously developing a dynamic with clients creates a energy which helps to bring an image to life.

How I got here

My interest in photography started way back in my early teens when I acquired a cheap Russian camera (a Zenith E). I then proceeded to devour all the photography books I could lay my hands on, pester the life out the staff in the local camera shop and take some pretty awful photographs. I figured a career in photography awaited, that was until when at the age of 17, I started playing guitar. Music and guitar became an all consuming passion. Photography went on the back burner and I ultimately pursued a career as musician and lecturer. For the next 20 years or so I devoted all my time to playing and studying music.

Over the years I've played in various original and covers band, been a product demonstrator for several companies, a course tutor at "The Arts Centre" in Liverpool as well as teaching guitar at the University of Manchester. I specialised in improvisation and performance studies. Five years ago I realised it was time for a change and embarked on a new career path.

In March 2006 I bought a Canon compact and rediscovered my passion for photography.

What now?

Well let's see. I have a real desire to take portraits; particularly documenting the people and buildings during this new phase of development in Liverpool. To round this off I have a couple of ongoing personal projects related to my experiences as a musician/teacher.

That should be enough for starters?
